It’s I Love America Night month! Plus farmers markets, library fun and more. Find all the details on events that will add to your summer fun this month.
1. VHUMC Farmers Market
Wednesdays | 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Scout Square
The farm is coming to you. Make a stop right off Highway 31 at this new market location to shop seasonal vegetables, baked goods and fruits from local producers. It’s open May 9 through Aug. 8, except for July 4. For more information, check out facebook.com/VestaviaFarmersMarket/.
2. Wing Ding Challenge 2018

Vestavia Hills City Hall
It’s time for chicken wings—and lots of them from competing cooks. Plus, there will be live music and a children’s area full of games and activities. The event is held annually by Leadership Vestavia Hills.
3. Teen Summer Reading Kick-off: Nerf Battle Royale
Saturday, June 5 | 5:30 p.m.

It’s time for a battle. A Nerf battle. So load your gear with those foam pellets. There will also be pizza and door prizes—and of course summer reading sign ups. Plus, find more library events here.
4. Saint Mark UMC Farmer’s Market

Get your fruits and veggies! You’ll find many to choose from as well as homemade pickles, jams, jellies, local honey, all-natural dog treats for your little Fido, and handmade candles that melt into a soothing body/hand lotion.
5. Freedom from Addiction Coalition Breakfast
Tuesday, June 12 | 8-9 a.m.
Canterbury United Methodist Church
Join Mayor Ashley Curry and other Over the Mountain mayors to hear from Richard Simmons and Jay Lloyd at what are now quarterly events to address issues of drug addiction. Following the program, representatives from local recovery providers will be available to speak privately with anyone in need of additional information or direction. Breakfast will be served starting at 7:30 a.m.
6. Vestavia Hills City Schools Rezoning Forum
June 12 at 5 p.m. | June 13 at 9 a.m.
Vestavia Hills Elementary East
School might be out, but there are still decisions to be made. Three school rezoning options will be available to view June 1-22 and provide input through an online survey. You can also provide feedback at these community forums. All responses will be reviewed and analyzed by Cooperative Strategies, and Superintendent Dr. Todd Freeman will make a recommendation to the Board of Education in July.
7. Father-Daughter Tea

8. I Love America Night

Wald Park
Our favorite night of the summer is back! Come for tree swimming 6-7:30 p.m., and stay for the children’s area (open 6-8 p.m.), a Pops in the Park concert at 7 p.m. and a family movie at 8:15 p.m. Best of all, it’s free.
