Spring is here and so are spring events. Here’s our roundup of what to do close to home this month.

1. RISE Kids Day

Saturday, April 3 | 9-11 a.m.
Vestavia Hills High School

Come out for a morning of fun with a character party and touch-a-truck event benefitting the Rucker Collier Foundation. The event is part of VHHS student organization RISE’s work to raise money to support research to fight cancer. Tickets, $15 each, can be purchased at gofan.co/app/events/229881.

2. Wing Ding

Saturday, April 24 | 4-7 p.m.
Vestavia Hills City Hall

Get ready to eat wings and more wings at this annual Leadership Vestavia Hills event, and there will be live music and a kids zone too. All proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Association, and the event is currently looking for sponsors. Find more details on their Facebook page.

3. Heights Hangout

Sunday, April 25 | 2-7 p.m.
Heights Village

This annual event will return with pop-up shops, food, live music and a kids’ zone. Admission, $10, proceeds benefit the ongoing beautification of Cahaba Heights through the Cahaba Heights Merchants Association.

1. Diabetes Walk for Camp Seale Harris

The Diabetes Walk for Camp Seale Harris is a Come out to help raise awareness of diabetes and help make it possible for kids to attend Camp Seale Harris, Alabama’s only diabetes camp, at this walk! Register for the family friendly walk/run at campsealeharris.org/diabeteswalk/.

2. Birmingham Botanical Gardens Spring Plant Sale

April 17-18
Online

The Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens is moving its annual Spring Plant Sale virtually this year. Hundreds of plants that have been specially selected for our region by six of the Friends’ dedicated volunteer growing groups will be available for online purchase and self-loading pickup at the Gardens. 3. Red Shoe Run: Rockin’ 5K 2021

Saturday, April 24
Downtown Homewood

Are you ready to rock? Time to turn up your favorite song and lace up your running shoes for this annual run benefitting Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama. You can choose from two participation options this year: a socially-distanced start line for the in-person 5K and 1 mile runs or a virtual option to rock the streets wherever you are. And as always, they will have a Snoozer option for those who simply wish to fundraise and get their T-shirt! Sign up at redshoerun-bham.org.

4. Spring Plant Sale

April 29- May 1
Thursday & Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Saturday 8:30 a.m.-noon
Aldridge Gardens

Time for spring planting! Volunteers and gardeners will be on hand at this annual sale to help with selections and to give advice about placement, care and maintenance, and you can own “a little bit of Aldridge Gardens” when if you buy a pass-along plant that lived there. The main feature is always the “Snowflake” hydrangea, but shoppers can also choose from a host of others too. Aldridge Gardens members get 10 percent off all purchases with their membership card too.
