HOW DID YOU TWO MEET?
Sam and I were both attending the Alpha Gam Rose Ball at the time. The bus ride to the event was long, and my friend and I did not know our dates well. We later agreed that I had a lot in common with her date, Sam. In the next few weeks, Sam got my number and invited me to his fraternity Christmas cocktail.
THE PROPOSAL
One of my favorite traditions is to go to the Alabama Theatre to see “White Christmas.” On the day of our engagement, Sam picked me up to go antiquing–one of our favorite pastimes. During our date, he told me that our next stop was within walking distance, but I was skeptical. When I was almost certain that we were nowhere near the shop, we turned the corner to the Alabama Theatre. In bright marquee letters, the sign read, “Abigail, Will You Marry Me?” When I turned around, Sam was on one knee! He later took me to dinner at City Club Birmingham, where he pulled off one more surprise–both of our families were there to celebrate with us.
PREPARING FOR MARRIAGE
We enjoyed attending premarital counseling. We were constantly reminded of God’s blessing of engagement as we thought through tough decisions pertaining to blending our individual lives.
WEDDING MOMENTS
I have often heard fellow Christians ask one another to share their “moment closest,” a specific moment of the week where you sensed God to be nearest to you. I like to remind myself that it is not if God is present, but rather, if we are available to receive His presence. After walking down the aisle, seeing all of the faces that have supported us over the years, my cup was overflowing.
