Allison Pounds & William Crutcher: A Vestavia Hills Wedding

How We Met: William and I (Allison) met at Vestavia Hills High School when I was a freshman and he was a junior. We definitely had crushes on each other at one point or another and went on a few dates when he was a freshman in college. Then things fizzled, and we then didn’t see each other for almost seven years! We reconnected when we were back in the same church, and he came to our Sunday school class.

The Proposal: Four months after we started dating, William joined the Army and left for basic training. I wrote him a letter every day that he was gone, a total of 108 letters, and he wrote to me as much as he could. Afterward, we went to Birmingham Botanical Gardens. He suggested we go over to this gazebo, and there I finally noticed all the pictures of us hung up, the letters we’d written and other mementos from our relationship. He said lots of sweet things, got down on one knee and proposed, and I said yes! Then, the rest of our friends and family came out of hiding and we celebrated with everyone.

Favorite Moments: I loved it all! After planning a wedding and then having to change and move everything due to COVID-19, it wasn’t even guaranteed that we would get to have this day. For me, getting to the day I’d been dreaming about for so long, seeing everyone there to celebrate our marriage, and finally getting to be husband and wife were my favorite thing.

Favorite Detail: We both sang the song “Goodness of God” by Bethel Music, and we had all of our guests sing with us. It was a beautiful moment of worship and such a sweet reminder of how good and wonderful our God is.
