HOW DID YOU TWO MEET?
Whitt’s perspective—Shelley and I met during our freshman year at Auburn University. Our first memory together was when I offered to walk her back to her dorm after a social event. It was a purely platonic offer, but I remember bonding over being in the same major and attending the same church. We both moved to Birmingham after graduating, and I finally asked her on a date! We were the proverbial “just friends” who everyone else saw differently long before we did.
THE PROPOSAL
Whitt’s perspective—I decided September 9, 2022, was the perfect day, and I picked a place Shelley and I both love—Shoppe—a local plant store. Earlier that day, Shelley informed me that she was ready for me to propose, and before I could stop myself, I responded a bit sarcastically saying, “No, that’s later tonight.” Thankfully, that got me off the hook. A friend picked Shelley up to go to dinner and brought her to Shoppe. I stepped out of the greenhouse to where Shelley could see me, and the pure joy on her face was a beautiful memory I’ll always cherish.
WEDDING DRESS DETAILS
Shelley’s perspective—From the start of planning, I knew I wanted the entire wedding day to feel like a “garden party,” and my dress was no exception. I instantly fell in love with the floral applique and even requested our cake to mimic its floral detail. I have always been a big fan of puffy sleeves, and as a huge bonus, my wedding dress sleeves were detachable!
WEDDING PLANNING ADVICE
Shelley’s perspective—Engagement season is so precious, and I have never felt more celebrated by so many friends and family. To really enjoy this season, start planning early.
