Meredith Alvarez & John Pickering: A Vestavia Hills Wedding

How We Met: John and I (Meredith) began hanging around the same group of people at our church years before we ever began dating. We always had a mutual respect for one another, but that grew into us falling in love three years later.

The Proposal: We were supposed to be getting dinner with another couple, but as John kept winding up the hill closer and closer to my favorite spot in Birmingham, I started to get butterflies. He had a beautiful table full of flowers and photos of us waiting at an overlook of the city. After he proposed, we drank champagne and celebrated for a little while. Little did I know, the night wasn’t over. He set up a huge celebration afterwards—even my friends from Atlanta and sister from Chicago were there.

Favorite Moment: We had the privilege of serving our guests communion. It was incredibly special to look our guests in the eyes and remind them of the love and grace found in Jesus.

Favorite Details: I loved the layout of our reception. Each area perfectly flowed into the next. Mariee Ami has an extremely unique ability to take a space and create the perfect flow to set the mood for an amazing party.

What You Are Doing Now: Six weeks after our wedding, we packed our bags and moved to Chattanooga. John is doing his residency in general surgery at Erlanger, and I am a reading interventionist at an elementary school. We absolutely love our new city, but will, of course, always miss Birmingham!
