Fall is here at last, so get ready for pumpkins, festivals and more around the hills.
1. Vestavia Hills Community Night Out

Vestavia Hills City Hall
Join the Vestavia Hills Police and Fire departments for a night of fun and demonstrations. Kids can enjoy activities, and there will be live music, free food and local vendors. Pets are welcome too!
2. Shop Save & Share
Oct. 2-13
Shops Throughout Vestavia Hills and Birmingham
We’re all about an excuse to shop for a good cause, and you can’t beat the Junior League of Birmingham’s Shop Save & Share fundraiser. A digital or printed Shop Save & Share card costs $40, and then you receive a 20 percent at more than 500 participating businesses—including at least 50 in Vestavia Hills alone. You can purchase and download a card at ShopSaveandShare.net or on the Planet Fundraiser app.
3. Rebels Varsity Football
Here’s to hoping the Rebels have some playoff games scheduled come November. Don your red and blue, and we’ll see you at Thompson Reynolds Stadium. All games start at 7 p.m.

4. American Red Cross Blood Drive

Donations by all blood types are needed for to help save lives, and it’s convenient to donate right off 31 at City Hall. To book an appointment visit redcrossblood.org and search for sponsor code “Vestaviahills.”
5. Brazil Day Festival
Saturday, Oct. 12 | 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Horizon Church Parking Lot

Travel to Brazil without leaving Birmingham at this annual festival featuring Brazilian music and fresh food cooked by local Brazilians. Kids can take part in a fun zone, face painting and games., Some of the money raised at the event goes toward missions and humanitarian projects managed by the missions program of Horizon Church.
6. Sammy Dunn Memorial Golf Tournament
Thursday, Oct. 17
Greystone Legacy
In his 27 years as a coach at Vestavia Hills High School from 1978-2004, Sammy Dunn’s baseball teams won nine state titles and a national championship, with an overall record of 647-146. Now the Vestavia Hills High School Baseball program hosts a golf tournament to honor Coach Dunn and the impact he made on VHHS. Last year it raised close to $90,000, with a portion of them going to the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center in Coach Dunn’s memory. This year anyone in the community, particularly alumni of the Rebel Baseball Program, are invited to participate tournament along with a ladies’ luncheon and silent auction will be Thursday, October 17th at Greystone Legacy. 7. Spooktacular
Friday, Oct. 25 | 6:30-8 p.m.
Library in the Forest
The children’s librarian will be telling “spooky” stories on the trail in the woods behind the library, and kids of all ages can take part in sing-along, make crafts, play games, eat snacks and enter a costume contest.
8. Heights Hero 5K and Fun Run
Saturday, Oct. 26
8 a.m. 5K | 9:30 a.m. Heroes Challenge
The Heights Village
Cahaba Heights
Run through the neighborhood streets of Cahaba Heights while benefitted the Vestavia Elementary Cahaba Heights PTO. The fun run will have age-based divisions. Registration is $20 for the 5K until Oct. 8 and $30 afterward. Sign up here.
