How We Met: Although our paths most likely crossed many times at high school football games, Jake and I (Addie) did not meet until we were both students at Auburn University.
The Proposal: After dating for two years, Jake chose to propose at my childhood family lake house on Lake Mitchell, on the exact same spot where my parents got engaged 28 years earlier.
Favorite Details: I always knew that I wanted to have my wedding reception in my parents’ backyard. With COVID restrictions taking over so many venues, that original plan proved to be a great choice. Although the ceremony was not taking place in my home church (Vestavia Hills United Methodist), we both wanted the ceremony to feel like church. And because as Jesus said, “Where two or more are gathered in my name, there am I,” that is exactly how it felt. I loved getting ready and having our wedding party pictures made at my grandparents’ house at one end of Vestavia and then getting married and having the reception at my own home on the other end of the city.
The Dress: I started with a designer dress and then made it unique with antique laces that belonged to my grandmother. The same seamstress who had made my mother’s dress from scratch worked her magic on my dress by dropping the back, adding the lace detail to the bodice and creating a beautiful lace bow feature in the back.
What We Are Doing Now: After a honeymoon in St. Lucia, we are excited to live in our newly renovated home in Cahaba Heights. I am a nurse with Children’s of Alabama, and Jake is an industrial engineer with Amazon. We are so happy to continue to make Vestavia Hills our home.
