It’s time for diamonds and art, stocking kids’ spring wardrobes and more to benefit community causes. Here’s our list of what to do this month.

1. aTeam Ministries Heart2Heart Gala

Sunday, Feb. 11 | 6-9 p.m.
Bridgestreet Gallery and Loft

Auctioned art takes on special meaning this night. Children with pediatric cancer are paired with a professional to create art and express their journey with cancer, an important part of their healing process. The professional artist partner also creates a work inspired by the child—all a part of aTeam’s goal of support and encouragement for these brave children. 2018 professional artists are Melony Allen, Kristin Blakeney, Ann Harper, Kasey Hope, Ashley McCullars and Lauren Woods, and patient artists are Sam Cunningham, Davis Hartsell, Camp Hendrix, Kathryn Marbutt, Shepard Nations and Kenna Parramore. To make reservations for the event, visit ateamministries.org.

2. Dinner and Diamonds Benefitting Vestavia Hills City School Foundation

Saturday, Feb. 24 | 7-11 p.m.
Regions Field

The evening is sure to shimmer and sparkle with dinner, entertainment, and silent and live auctions—all to benefit academic “extras” such as professional development, technology and classroom enhancements for Vestavia City Schools. This annual event also includes complimentary valet. Props to VHHS student Gracie Corcoran for creating this year’s invitation art. Tickets are $80 each and available at vestaviafoundation.org.

3. Whale of a Sale

Feb. 22-23 | Thursday 5-9 p.m., Friday 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church

Spring is (almost) in the air. Stock your kids’ spring and summer wardrobe. Better yet, consign some of their clothes from last year, and you can shop early to call dibs on the best items. Find more details at whaleofasale.blogspot.com.

4. Market on the Mountain

Feb. 23-24 | Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Mountaintop Community Church

Yep, there’s two church consignment sales this weekend, so you best be ready to shop.

5. Upcycle City: Valentine Multimedia Art

Friday, Feb. 9 | 7 p.m.
Library in the Forest Community Room

This popular library program takes on a love-ly theme this month. Come out and create unique Valentine-themed art. Call 978-4678 or email tleslie@bham.lib.al.us to register. Plus, find lots more library events here.

6. Samford Legacy League’s 2018 Scholarship Luncheon Featuring Angie Smith

Thursday, Feb. 15 | 11:30 a.m.

While pregnant with her fourth daughter, Audrey, Angie Smith found out that her little one would not survive after childbirth, and she started a blog, Bring the Rain, as a way to share her heart and struggles honestly. Today she writes books and Bible studies to “share my stories and my love of God in the hopes that they will inspire you, make you feel like we’re friends, and hopefully, give you some really good laughs in the process.” This Nashville mom of five girls is also coming to town to speak at this annual luncheon to help make it possible for students with significant financial need and challenging circumstances to attend Samford University. The event takes place at a location in Vestavia Hills, and you can find more details and make your reservations at samford.edu/legacyleague.
